10 Tips to My Younger Self

1. Define Yourself Positively: Don’t let anyone define you in a negative way. Remember that our actions determine our destiny, so dwelling on the past is futile. Be grateful for the present, seize opportunities to change, look forward, and work hard for a brighter future.

2. Let Your Work Speak for Itself: Those genuinely interested in your work will seek you out. Instead of chasing them, focus your time and energy on creating and improving your craft.

3. Embrace Authenticity:Don’t fear being yourself. It’s far better to be genuine than a poor imitation of someone else. As my dear friend Chad Goodman says, “You do you.”

4. Stand Up for Your Dreams:When teachers or negative influences try to deter you from pursuing your dreams, don’t hesitate to assert yourself. Occasionally, you may need to tell them to “move on.”

5. Surround Yourself with Supporters: Keep close contact with people who genuinely want the best for you—those uplifting souls who brighten your day. Limit interactions with those who drain your energy.

6. Learn and Break Patterns: Learn from your experiences and break harmful patterns. The universe will keep testing you until you stop repeating the same mistakes.

7. Secure Commissions Wisely: When starting a commission, request a percentage upfront. Sadly, not everyone keeps their word. Remember, it’s not personal; it’s strictly business.

8. Trust Your Instincts: Follow your heart. When something feels off, it often is. Trust your intuition to guide you on the right path.

9. Value Constructive Input: Learn from constructive criticism and those who appreciate your art. Don’t be angered by every opinion, for he who controls your emotions controls you.

10. Embrace Growth and Creativity: Practice leads to improvement. Challenge yourself by creating art outside your comfort zone. Your life experiences fuel your creative journey.

These lessons have guided my path, and I hope they provide valuable insights for your journey too. Remember, your unique journey is something to cherish and nurture.
